The Self-directed Support Service supports people to employ their own Personal Assistants and/or purchase services using SDS Option 1 (Direct Payments).

As an organisation we are not the employer but we assist people to recruit staff.

If you are employed, your contract will be with the person in receipt of the SDS funding and not with Dundee Carers Centre or the SDS Service.

Personal Assistant

  • Hours: 16 per week – various shift patterns, mornings, evenings and night calls and weekends and overnights.
  • Rate of pay: £13.50 per hour

Personal assistant required for young person with disabilities and additional support needs.  Duties will include personal care, practical support and social assistance.  The personal assistant should have flexibility to cover various shift patterns, and weekend availability is required.   Good time keeping and reliability are required.

A car driver is essential as the personal assistant will have access to the employer’s car.  Must have experience in manual handling, ie using hoist, pushing wheelchair.  Experience of supporting people with complex needs and challenging behaviour is desirable.

Personal Assistant

Lady with Huntington’s Disease living independently in her own home in Friockheim, is looking to expand her team to enable her to continue to live her happy life at home.

Duties include – personal care, assistance with meals, moving/handling (hoist), full training provided, light household duties, social duties, assistance with medication.

Ideally we are looking for applicants with their own car, full UK driving licence as shift requires 3 separate visits a day.

Personal qualities that are essential include empathy with the lady, kindness, attention to detail, reliable time keeping and a positive attitude. Females only need apply as permitted under Schedule 9, part 1 of the Equality Act 2010. P.V.G membership essential or willing to join.

A part-time Personal Assistant is required to support a 47 year old professional woman who has an interest in the arts and keeping fit. Following a stroke, she is now registered partially sighted and has some mobility issues. She therefore requires some assistance with personal care and enabling support so that she can attend appointments and undertake activities that are important to her. She is looking for someone who can assist her with maintaining a high level of independence within and outside her home.

Duties include

  • Assisting with personal care
  • Preparation of meals/cooking
  • Shopping and housework

You will be joining a new team so applicants are required to have some flexibility to cover annual leave and staff absences when the need arises.

Although some experience in the care sector would be beneficial, it is not essential. Applicants should be reliable with good timekeeping, they should be trustworthy and able to adhere to client confidentiality.

PVG membership is essential.

A driving licence would be useful but not essential.

Personal Assistants x 2 posts

Hours: 6 hours each

Rate of pay – £14 per hour

Personal assistants required for a fun loving, 8-year-old boy who enjoys visiting the local parks, visiting the beach, inflatables/ trampolines, and cinema. Looking for two personal assistants to work together to provide 2:1 support for him to access activities whilst keeping him safe. The young person has a diagnosis of autism, intellectual disability, pica and is pre-verbal. He is very affectionate, loving, full of energy and good fun.

 Person Specification:

  • Kind, caring and patient whilst being able to maintain boundaries.
  • Experience working with children with autism and challenging behaviour.
  • Access to a car

Hours: 4 hours to be worked on a Sunday per week with an additional 8 hours per month to be worked flexibility within the month during school term times. Hours will be flexible during school holidays.

  • Annual leave entitlement.
  • PVG is essential

Part Time Personal Assistant

Desirable Characteristics:
