The Self-directed Support Service supports people to employ their own Personal Assistants and/or purchase services using SDS Option 1 (Direct Payments).
As an organisation we are not the employer but we assist people to recruit staff.
If you are employed, your contract will be with the person in receipt of the SDS funding and not with Dundee Carers Centre or the SDS Service.
Personal Assistant
- Hours: 12 hours per week, with the hours likely to increase up to 20 hours through time
- Rate of pay: £13.95 per hour
- Location: Dundee
Personal assistant required to support a 39-year-old man who uses single word communication and basic Makaton. He likes walking and chatting and is very friendly. He likes being outdoors and likes to go swimming, hillwalking, and going to the gym. Due to his learning disability and autism, he needs close supervision when out and about.
He is looking for a personal assistant who will accompany him to the gym, going for walks and who will provide support and supervision.
Hours available:
- Friday: 4pm – 7pm – To collect from the day centre and bring home
- Saturday: 3pm – 6pm
- Sunday: 3pm – 6pm
- Monday: 4pm – 7pm – To collect from the day centre and bring home
Main duties will include:
- Providing support to enable him to undertake activities that he enjoys.
- Helping him to communicate his needs by taking time to listen and to observe what he is trying to communicate.
- Accompanying him when out in the community.
- Assistance with any other reasonable tasks as and when required.
- Supporting him to have a shower at home, or at the gym.
PVG membership is essential.
Driving licence desirable.
A carer with no pets is preferable due to allergies.

Personal Assistant

I am a 73-year-old lady with Usher Syndrome (hearing and sight loss) seeking a kind, patient Personal Assistant to support me at home and when out and about. Good communication is essential – clear spoken English and a willingness to learn the Deafblind Manual are required.
Main duties:
- Communicate clearly and support understanding
- Ensure safety and promote independence
- Assist with light domestic tasks
- Accompany to appointments and social outings
- Provide help with toileting (no personal care)
Reliable, patient, observant, and organised. Experience with sensory loss is helpful but not essential – training can be provided.

Lady with Huntington’s Disease living independently in her own home in Friockheim, is looking to expand her team to enable her to continue to live her happy life at home. Come along and join our friendly team.
Duties include:
- Personal care
- Assistance with meals
- Moving/handling (hoist), full training provided
- Light household duties
- Social duties
- Assistance with medication
Ideally, we are looking for an applicant with their own car, full UK driving licence, as shift requires 3 separate visits a day.
Hours available:
12-16 hours per week 3 x visits per day over 2 days. Week 1-3 x visits per day over 2 days during the week. Week 2 – 3 x visits per day over 2 days at the weekend.
Personal qualities that are essential include empathy with the lady, kindness, attention to detail, reliable time keeping and positive attitude.

P.V.G membership essential or willing to join.
