As an organisation we are not the employer but we assist people to recruit staff.

If you are employed, your contract will be with the person in receipt of the SDS funding and not with Dundee Carers Centre or the SDS Service.

The live-in-carer will provide full-time support to a wheelchair-dependent lady within her home.  The role focuses on maintaining dignity, independence, comfort, and safety while assisting with daily living activities and companionship.

Self-employed Personal Assistants x 2

  • Hours: 15 hours/ week
  • Rate of pay: £20 per hour

2 x 15 hour positions are available to support a 23 year old woman with all aspects of daily living and to live a full and active life.

Hours of work

Monday to Friday, starting at 8:30am (7:30am on Wednesdays).

Main duties will include:

  • Providing support to enable her to undertake activities that she enjoys.
  • Using visual supports to help her understand, remember and plan routines.
  • Accompanying and closely supervising her when out in the community.
  • Assistance with any other reasonable tasks as and when required.
  • Supporting with all aspects of personal care

The Postholder

The job requires someone who is understanding, patient and calm with good communication skills. A confident individual is required with experience of supporting people who live with anxiety and display challenging behaviour. Support is required with personal care, attending appointments, college and travel. This person can get tired easily, uses a wheelchair at times and finds public transport difficult, therefore, a driving license and vehicle is essential.

It is important that the postholder has knowledge of learning disabilities and Autism. As the personal assistant will be working on a one-to-one basis it is vital that they are reliable, trustworthy and punctual. They should also be friendly, caring, sensitive and good fun. Confidentiality should be always respected.

You must be willing to undertake basic training as required.

PVG membership is essential.

Driving License is essential.

Job Description

66-year-old gentleman looking for Personal Assistants to help him live a full and active life.

He is a wheelchair user with limited speech, but a great sense of humour. He lives with his wife at home and enjoys listening to music, watching football and sports. He attends several groups throughout the week. You would support him to attend these groups utilising the family’s disability vehicle. The applicant should hold a valid and clean driving licence.

Based in the Kirriemuir area. Personal Assistants would help him to attend his social events and carry out some personal care tasks.

He can self-transfer however the applicant must be confident in moving and handling. The successful applicant must be able to become a member of the PVG scheme.

There are several shifts available, and the family have a degree of flexibility in relation to shift times. Two full days of care will be required to assist him attend his groups.

Hours available are

  • Sundays 16:45 to 18:45
  • Monday 08:00 to 09:15
  • Tuesdays 08:00 to 09:15
  • Wednesday 08:00 to 17:00
  • Thursday 08:00 to 17:00

Experienced Personal Assistant required to join a successful team supporting a female in her 50’s with MS.

Due to the location of this position having a clean driving license and own car are essential. The location of this position is not on a transport route.

You must be a non-smoker and comfortable around dogs.

Personal assistant required to support a 39-year-old man who uses single word communication and basic Makaton. He likes walking and chatting and is very friendly. He likes being outdoors and likes to go swimming, hillwalking, and going to the gym. Due to his learning disability and autism, he needs close supervision when out and about.

He is looking for a personal assistant who will accompany him to the gym, going for walks and who will provide support and supervision.

Hours available:

  • Friday: 4pm – 7pm – To collect from the day centre and bring home
  • Saturday: 3pm – 6pm
  • Sunday: 3pm – 6pm
  • Monday: 4pm – 7pm – To collect from the day centre and bring home

Main duties will include:

  • Providing support to enable him to undertake activities that he enjoys.
  • Helping him to communicate his needs by taking time to listen and to observe what he is trying to communicate.
  • Accompanying him when out in the community.
  • Assistance with any other reasonable tasks as and when required.
  • Supporting him to have a shower at home, or at the gym.

A carer with no pets is preferable due to allergies.

Personal qualities that are essential include empathy with the lady, kindness, attention to detail, reliable time keeping and positive attitude.
