The Self-directed Support Service supports people to employ their own Personal Assistants and/or purchase services using SDS Option 1 (Direct Payments).

As an organisation we are not the employer but we assist people to recruit staff.

If you are employed, your contract will be with the person in receipt of the SDS funding and not with Dundee Carers Centre or the SDS Service.

Personal Assistant/Support Worker

  • Hours: 20 hour contract
  • Rate of pay: £12.50 per hour
  • Location:  Dundee

(Shift patterns include 7.15am-8.45am, 3pm-8.30pm, 9am-8pm. Various shift patterns morning evenings and night calls and weekends)

I am a young teenage girl with disabilities and additional needs. I require support 7 days a week at home with personal care, dressing, getting ready for school, support at bed times and going out in the community. I take part in lots of activities and would like to be supported to continue doing this.

  • Driver and access to a car – essential requirement
  • Good time keeping, reliable and flexibility required.
  • Must have experience in manual handling ie- using hoist, pushing wheelchair.
  • Must have availability at weekends
  • Desirable to have some experience in supporting people with complex needs and challenging behaviours.

Place of work Based in employers’ home in Dundee but may have to accompany employer to another residence for respite.

We are looking for  2 personal assistants to support a 10-year-old boy in the community who has a diagnosis of Autism and ADHD. He displays some challenging behaviour and will need some assistance around changes to routine. He is a sweet boy who is very active and enjoys all aspects of play including playparks, soft play, trampolining, and swimming.

The candidate’s should be experienced in dealing with challenging behaviour associated with Autism and ADHD and be willing to work together with the family to develop strategies to support him.

Children's Support Worker (3 positions available)

  • Hours:  Varied (weekend and overnight stay)
  • Rate of pay:  £12.50
  • Location: Dundee

3 positions available (please only apply if you currently reside in Dundee and meet the below requirements)

Our son requires a 2-1 level of support. This is due to the challenging behaviour he may present at any time. Duties will include taking him to parks, play areas and to the swimming pool. Aspects of personal care will be included such as nappy changing, showering/bathing and dressing.

The rota will consist of 2 Saturdays of the month starting at 10am until 4pm and a weekend sleepover starting on a Saturday at 2pm until 2pm on the Sunday. We would rotate this between staff members. Weekdays may be offered during the holiday periods; weekdays will be flexible.

We require those with a driving licence and access to a car along with business insurance.

I am a mature female with Multiple Sclerosis living in the West End of Dundee.  I need personal and domestic help to lead an individual and independent lifestyle.

I am looking for a team of happy, respectful, reliable and patient care assistants who can provide support at the beginning and the end of the day.  One hour in the morning and ½ an hour in the evening worked on a rota basis.  Care Assistants will work in teams of two.   Experience of moving and handling and Catheter/Stoma care is desirable (training will be given as necessary).

  • PVG membership is essential.
  • Females only need apply as permitted under Schedule 9, part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

Personal Assistant

  • Hours: Up to 8 hours a week (school holidays only)
  • Rate of pay: £10.90 per hour
  • Location: Dundee

Personal assistants are required during school holidays to provide enabling support to an eight year old boy who has social and communication difficulties.

He has lots of energy and needs constant supervision to keep him safe.  He uses visual communication and some words.   He is fully mobile but has no awareness of danger.  He can at times be mischievous and display challenging behaviour.    He will require two to one support so it is important that the postholders are flexible, reliable, trustworthy and punctual.

We are looking for friendly, caring, kind, responsible and committed personal assistants who can help him take part in outdoor activities and provide the support he requires.

  • Experience of caring for children with additional support needs is essential
  • A driving licence is desirable.
  • PVG membership is essential.
