The Self-directed Support Service supports people to employ their own Personal Assistants and/or purchase services using SDS Option 1 (Direct Payments).
As an organisation we are not the employer but we assist people to recruit staff.
If you are employed, your contract will be with the person in receipt of the SDS funding and not with Dundee Carers Centre or the SDS Service.
Part Time Personal Assistant
- Hours: 3 hours per week during school term time – mainly weekend support.
Up to 9 hours during school holidays - Rate of Pay: £14 per hour
- Location: Employer’s home and wider community
I am looking for a Personal Assistant to support my 5-year-old son who is non-verbal and has a diagnosis of autism with global development delay. He loves to go to the park, soft play, Science Centre, swimming as well as other activities.
Main Duties:
- Provide sensitive emotional support – promoting choice and encouraging new experiences.
- Accompany to take part in social and leisure activities as and when appropriate.
Essential Characteristics:
- Life or work experience with children with autism and additional support needs.
- During school holidays hours will vary so the ability to be flexible.
- PVG membership will be required.
Desirable Characteristics:
- Driver with access to own car would be preferred.

Support Worker
- Hours: 30 hours per week
- Rate of Pay: £15.20 per hour
- Location: Strathmartine Dundee
Support worker required for a 19 year old man who lives with his family in the Strathmartine area of Dundee. He enjoys gaming, going to the cinema and attends the gym around three times a week. He has an interest in Star Wars, Marvel and Lego. He enjoys city breaks and being outdoors. He also likes to listen to rap music.
He has cerebral palsy and uses a manual wheelchair to get around independently. Due to his disability he requires some assistance with personal care and practical support.
He is looking for a male support worker (as permitted under Shedule 9, part 1 of the Equality Act 2010) who can help promote independent living, is fun to be with, and has similar interests to himself. They should be able to think out of the box, be creative and empower him to explore and try new activities. Someone who is easy going, has a positive and friendly personality, is kind, caring, reliable, calm and patient with a good sense of humour. They should also have good communication and listening skills with an ability to follow instructions when required. As there are currently other staff supporting the family you will be joining a small team, therefore flexibility and good teamwork is required.
Hours of work will be up to 30 per week which will include some weekend working. There will also be the opportunity to work additional hours to cover overnight short breaks and to cover sickness absence and annual leave of other staff.
A driving licence is desirable.
PVG membership is essential.

Relief Personal Assistant
- Hours: Varied (Cover when main PA is off)
- Rate of pay: £16.00 per hour
- Location: Dundee
The employer is a young woman of 22, who has a diagnosis of Autism and Anxiety at times severe. She lives with her mum and dad at home.
This position is for occasional relief cover, for when the main personal assistants are off sick or on holiday. In the future, if one of the positions becomes vacant, you may be considered for a part time permanent position.
Personal Assistant’s Characteristics
Essential:
- Friendly, caring, sensitive and good company
- Experience with dealing with challenging behaviour (e.g. emotional outbursts)
- Driving licence essential
- PVG Membership will be required.

Two personal assistants required for an outgoing senior female adapting to mobility/eating restrictions and looking for support at home and in the community.
Looking for people who are outgoing, positive, have a good sense of humor, flexible in their approach and tolerant.

Personal Assistants x 2 (Part-time)
- Hours: 17 hours each
- Rate of pay: £13 per hour
I am an active 23-year-old young woman with mild learning difficulties and need help to participate fully and safely in the community, find activities, and meet other like-minded young people. I have a great sense of humour, am very friendly and love to communicate with everyone. I do however need help and encouragement to remain safe and involved in activities.
