Statement of commitment to tackling discrimination, including racism, antisemitism, and Islamophobia
At Dundee Carers Centre, we believe everyone deserves to be treated with fairness and dignity and is supported to make a positive difference in their lives. Like so many, we were appalled by the horrifying riots that took place during the summer targeting asylum seekers, migrants, and people from minority ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Dundee Carers Centre is fully committed to tackling discrimination in all its forms, including racism, antisemitism, and Islamophobia. Discrimination in all its forms is unacceptable, and Dundee Carers Centre has zero tolerance of racism towards our staff, volunteers, or the people we support.
We are conscious that recent traumatic events have occurred amid ongoing and expanding global conflicts, that continue to have a deep impact on our staff, volunteers, and the people we support. We have listened to people we support from minority ethnic and cultural backgrounds and are distressed to hear of people feeling increasingly isolated and less safe in their communities.
We have taken time to reflect together, and Dundee Carers Centre remains committed and will continue to take action to tackle discrimination, including racism, antisemitism, and Islamophobia in our community.
- We will listen, observe, respect, and work hard to understand people’s experience of discrimination and consider how this can and will be addressed.
- We will create safe spaces for our colleagues, partners, and the people we support to share their experiences with us giving insight into what works well and what we can do better as individuals and as an organisation.
- We will ensure that training and learning opportunities are available to our colleagues to enhance our awareness and enable a greater understanding of unconscious bias.
- We will work with our managers and trustees to ensure that discrimination is addressed fairly and effectively and that we understand more deeply the impact of racism, antisemitism, and Islamophobia on our colleagues and the people we support.
